Madsen Building reopens after chemical spill
31 October 2013
The University evacuated the Madsen Building on Eastern Avenue this morning following a chemical reaction in a dangerous goods cabinet that led to a chemical spill.
The incident took place before University operating hours and nobody was injured.
The University acted quickly in line with safety procedures, Fire and Rescue NSW's hazardous materials unit attended campus, and most of the Madsen Building had reopened to staff and students by mid-morning.
Fire and Rescue NSW left campus in early afternoon and the University is now finalising the cleanup.
In line with its work health and safety practices, the University will conduct an investigation into the incident and have notified Workcover.
