Discover your future at University of Sydney Open Day
25 August 2014
A world of opportunity will open for students, parents and the community as the University of Sydney celebrates its biggest event of the year, Open Day, on Saturday 30 August.
Visit the University of Sydney's inner-city campuses to chat with experts about study options, experience Sydney's world-class teaching and research, explore the state-of-the-art and heritage buildings, and get a taste of life outside the classroom.
"Open Day is the best day of the year to get inspired about study and learn more about the opportunities on campus," said Kaveh Ghezel, Head of Undergraduate Recruitment at the University of Sydney.
"The University of Sydney is home to the broadest course offering of any university in Australia, and our vibrant campus life is consistently rated the best in the country. Open Day is a wonderful snapshot of the many opportunities and experiences we offer at Sydney.
"I encourage anyone considering higher education to visit the University and experience first-hand the way we are changing Australia and the world through leadership in education and research."
Fun, interactive activities will provide a glimpse of cutting-edge research at Sydney: have your head copied by our Makerbot scanner and printed in 3D at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning; feel what it's like to stand in quicksand at our geomechanical activity; see the University-built NASA Mars Rover-style vehicles and our exciting new robots at the Engineering and Information Technologies precinct; and get a free health check or try out the latest health and exercise equipment at our Health Hub.
More than 150 mini-lectures will give a taste of courses on offer at Sydney, while academics, admissions staff and careers advisers will be on hand to answer questions and provide advice on your path to higher education.
A series of must-hear talks will explore how an arts degree can change the world, how science and technology can enhance sporting performance, whether men make better nurses than women, and the future of food.
The University of Sydney's own Dr Karl Kruszelnicki will play the 'game of knowns', revealing why psychopaths make good kings, how smartphones dumb down our conversations, and why the left side of your face is the most attractive.
Join tours of the campus, faculty buildings, museums and residential colleges, or soak up the atmosphere with live entertainment, music and food.
Parents are also encouraged to come along to find out more about the admissions and enrolment process and how to help guide your child through their HSC and on to university life.
For those considering further study, Postgraduate at Open Day at the New Law Building will provide an opportunity to speak with alumni and current students, get advice from academic staff, and attend seminars on the University's diverse range of postgraduate options.
To make sure you get the full Open Day experience, download the Open Day planner to your mobile or tablet and create your own personalised schedules on the Open Day website.
