Chancellor announces May departure
8 February 2007
Justice Kim Santow will stand down as Chancellor of the University when his term of office comes to an end in May.
Justice Santow, who was appointed Chancellor in 2001, told the University Senate on Monday night that he would not be seeking re-election for a further four years.
In a letter to University staff, Justice Santow said: "It is my conviction that 9½ years would be too long for a Chancellor to serve Sydney University in this contemporary era."
A Senate committee will now handle the process of appointing his successor.
A former University rowing Blue, Justice Santow is a Judge in the Supreme Court of New South Wales Court of Appeal.
