Managing Carbon and Water for Agriculture

12 April 2010

Three key researchers from two respected Mexican research institutes (IMTA and Colegio de Posgraduos) will visit the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Sydney between 6 and 14 April. As part of their visit they will join a workshop with Faculty researchers to explore research priorities and challenges in the area of 'Managing Carbon and Water for Food Security and Agricultural Exports'. The workshop will seek to identify possible cooperative research projects between the University and the home research institutes and identify funding sources for such projects.

Both IMTA and the Colegio are strong research based organisations in Mexico who are natural counterparts to the work going on in the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Professor Jorge Etchevers (Colegio de Posgraduos) is an expert in soil fertility and carbon management, Professor Waldo Ojeda (IMTA) is an expert in irrigation water management, while Professor Israel Velasco (IMTA) is an expert in hydrometeorology, or the interaction between climate and water supply.
