Prof. Erik Olin Wright Visits China Studies Centre

15 June 2011

Erik Olin Wright, Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin, is visiting China Studies Centre tomorrow, sharing his views on class with members of the Centre. His research has mainly concerned comparative class analysis and problems of rethinking the foundations of contemporary Marxist theory.

He will present a paper on Understanding Class, in which he argues that although the Marxist tradition is a valuable body of ideas because it successfully identifies real mechanisms that matter for a wide range of important problems, this does not mean it has a monopoly on the capacity to identify such mechanisms.
