3 World-leading positions in the International Union of Soil Sciences

The International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) is the global union of soil scientists.Its objectives are to promote all branches of soil science, and to support all soil scientists across the world in the pursuit of their activities.

In 2012, IUSS organised the first global Presidential elections and this year they have held the elections of all Division and Commission chairs and vice-chairs. The elections were all done electronically and we had voting from all over the world the newly elected officers that will take care of the scientific activities over the period 2014 to 2018.

Head of Department Alex McBratney is happy to announce that of the 22 Commissions within the IUSS the Department of Environmental Sciences in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment will be leading three:

  • Commission 1.5. Pedometrics; Chair: Dr Budiman Minasny,
  • Commission 2.4. Soil Mineralogy; Chair, A/Prof. Balwant Singh
  • Commission 4.4. Soil Education and Public Awareness; Chair, Dr Damien Field

Prof McBratney also congratulates them on their election and wish them every success in their world-leading positions.
