Agricultural Short Course facilitated for Beijing Delegates

9 January 2010

In December 2009, members of the Faculty of Agriculture Food and Natural Resources (FAFNR) took part in presenting an intensive training program on modern agricultural management for 28 Chinese delegates from a range of agricultural-focused organisations in and around Beijing.

The 4-day program, managed by the University of Sydney's Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP) focused on recent developments, modern techniques and new trends in agricultural production and sustainable practices in Australia. The delegates hope to use their new knowledge to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability in agronomic and animal production systems around the Beijing area. Topics included 'Trends and developments in Australian agricultural science and technology', 'The Role of Innovation in Agricultural Production and Marketing', and 'Modern Agriculture Management and Leadership'. Site visits were held to the Australian Bread Research Institute, the University of Sydney's Diary Farm, and the University of Sydney's Plant Breeding Institute.

Lectures were given by Professor Les Copeland and Emeritus Professor Gordon Macaulay from the University's FAFNR, Dr Xiao Chun Zhao and Mr James Bell from the University's Plant Breeding Institute and Mr Gerard McEvilly, a part-time academic with FAFNR.
