Find out what makes the Plant Breeding Institute Cobbitty special at the inaugural Open Day on Friday 12 November 2010. This is a free fun day-out for the whole family! Who should attend? Alumni and friends, prospective students, business/industry, general public.
You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at horticultural projects, wheat research and ecosystems operations.
Program includes courses and career options for prospective students, PBI research highlights, glasshouse and field tours, demonstrations and alumni produce fair.
Enjoy a BBQ lunch, roving performers, and a 'Memory Lane' display of 100 years of world-changing agriculture.
The Open Day highlights are:
HOT TOPIC TALKS - half hour talks and question time on world-changing issues from our international academic experts - Professor Richard Trethowan, Director, IA Watson Grains Research Centre, Narrabri; Professor John Crawford, the Judith and David Coffey Chair in Sustainable Agriculture; and Fulbright Scholar Professor Robert Park, GRDC Chair of Cereal Rust Research; and
ASK A SCIENTIST - discover what's in your garden, why we use biodiesel, why there is so much research on climate change, if we use genetically modified crops............... and much more. This will be a lively panel session answering your questions with a special guest alumnus as MC.
