Students discover the exciting world of Agriculture at this year's Camden Campus Open Day!

An enthusiastic group of around 240 Yr 9 & 10 students and staff from High Schools in the Macarthur District visited the University of SydneyCamden Campus on Friday, November 18th for the 2011 Camden Campus Open Day for schools. The day commenced with an entertaining and informative presentation from Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, the popular media personality who explored the roles of science and agriculture in tackling the major forthcoming challenges facing the world.

Students were then immersed in a range of hands-on activities covering areas as diverse as food biotechnology, photosynthesis, carbon trading and aquaculture. Meanwhile other groups explored the scenic surrounds and learnt about Veterinary Science and research conducted at the nearby Plant Breeding Institute.

The day concluded with an inspirational talk by Professor John Crawford, who holds the Judith and David Coffey Chair in Sustainable Agriculture. Professor Crawford spoke about the interconnected nature of our living world and the role of future scientists in developing solutions.
