Ed Blakely, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Sydney, took on one of the most challenging jobs in the world when he was appointed to head up the reconstruction of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

As part of the Sydney Ideas public lecture series, Professor Blakely talked last night at Seymour Theatre about his strategy for rebuilding New Orleans and the difficulties he has encountered. He described the work he has carried out since his appointment in December and gave his assessment of the current situation in the city.
