The Style of Choice

5 August 2010

Bart Lootsma, Leopold- Franzens University, Innsbruck
Introduction: Matthew Chan, Principal, Scale Architecture

About the talk
Notwithstanding the ambitious motto of the Expo in Shanghai, the exhibition itself is the ultimate proof of Rem Koolhaas' dictum that "The style of choice is postmodern, and will always remain so. Postmodernism is the only movement that has succeeded in connecting the practice of architecture with the practice of panic." Only if we can accept this reality, we can try to look for more serious new tasks and challenges for architecture and urbanism. A lecture on the occasion of the Expo in Shanghai, the exhibition Insiders in Bordeaux and the reality of 50% of the world's population living in shanty towns.
