New Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Professor Annamarie Jagose has been appointed the new Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Currently Head of the School of Literature, Arts and Media, Professor Jagose is an internationally renowned scholar in feminist studies, lesbian/gay studies and queer theory. A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities, she is the author of a number of monographs and is an award-winning novelist and short story writer.

“The search for a new dean has been highly competitive, involving a thorough local and international search and a number of exceptional candidates,” said Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr Michael Spence.

"As Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Annamarie Jagose will be a member of the University Executive, and I very much look forward to working with her.

“Please join me in congratulating Professor Jagose on her success, and also in thanking Professor Barbara Caine for serving as Acting Dean,” the Vice-Chancellor added.

Professor Jagose previously held positions in the Department of English and Cultural Studies at the University of Melbourne, and in the Department of Film, Television and Media Studies at the University of Auckland before coming to Sydney in 2011.

She will commence as Dean on 1 January 2017.
