Sydney Writers' Festival Student 'Media Hub' internships open!

21 April 2017

Applications have been extended to Friday 5 May!

Are you a third year English, Creative Writing or Media and Communications student with a passion for books and the written word?

Applications are now open for our Sydney Writers’ Festival 'Media Hub' student internships. This opportunity will see six lucky students rub shoulders with acclaimed international and Australian writers while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of one of the world’s most celebrated literary festivals.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to interview authors, review festival sessions, create dynamic social media content, and have their writing published across University channels. This is an incredibly hands on internship, which will provide experience in areas such as journalism, digital content creation, and literary criticism.

For students interested in radio, podcasting and sound editing, we also have five podcasting internships embedded within the Sydney Writers’ Festival audio production team.

“The Sydney Writer’s Festival is one of the great opportunities to meld minds with luminary thinkers from around the world - there’s no reason not to go. Why not join the University’s Media Intern Hub, skip the lines and do it for free?”, said previous intern Tom St John.

Previous interns have interviewed the likes of literary stars Marlon James, Lauren Beukes, William Dalrymple, Tara Moss, Benjamin Law, Daniel Mendelsohn and more. Interns will ideally be available across the main festival days of 25-28 May, and will be situated in the heart of the action at the festival precinct in Walsh Bay.

“The Media Internship I had with the University of Sydney allowed me to experience the Sydney Writer's Festival in a way I never would have been able to otherwise. Not only did I get an inside look at the way the festival works, and access to all of the best talks, but I had a journalistic experience writing about what I got to see, and learn each day.” Lauren Weber, 2016 Media Hub intern.
