Civil Engineering graduate Mr. David Higgins has been appointed chief executive of London's Olympic Development Authority (ODA).

The ODA is the body responsible for building the extensive sports facilities and infrastructure needed for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Mr Higgins graduated from the University of Sydney with a civil engineering degree in 1977. He is currently the chief executive of English Partnerships, a national agency charged with helping the UK government support sustainable growth in England.

The chairman of London 2012, Sebastian Coe, told UK newspaper The Guardian that Mr Higgins "has a pre-eminent track record in construction projects. He has an exceptional reputation and brings with him valuable games experience as well as the delivery of large-scale, complex projects."

Before moving to the UK, Mr Higgins was chief executive of the Australian firm, Land Lease. Under his leadership, Lend Lease successfully developed Sydney's critically acclaimed Olympic stadium and Olympic village.
