Confucius Institute visited by Former Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister

Former Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister and current Chinese State Council Consultant, Qiao Zonghuai, visited the University's Confucius Institute as part of adelegation from Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) on Friday 16 July. Hanban is a non-government and non-profit organisation committed to providing Chinese language and culture teaching through Confucius Institutes and classrooms worldwide.

Mr Qiao advises Hanban on international strategy. During the visit, the delegation met with Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr Michael Spence, and Mr Qiao thanked the University for supporting the Confucius Institute since its establishment in 2008.

Following this, an hour-long meeting was held at the Confucius Institute, in which Mr Qiao inspected the premises and spoke with Confucius Institute staff about the activities and programs offered by the Institute and their plans for the future, including Chinese language teaching and many cultural events.
