Public Film Screening: Last Train Home

4 August 2010

The University of Sydney Confucius Institute and the Sydney Canadian Film Festivalco-presented a screening of the award-winning Last Train Home.

Winner of the Best Feature at the prestigious International Documentary Festival and selected for competition at the Sundance Film Festival, this documentary tells the story of migrant workers the Zhangs, as they journey to visit their estranged family during Chinese New Year.

For over one hundred million Chinese workers this is an arduous, annual exodus and has been labelled as the world's largest human migration. In an effort to provide a better future for their family, the Zhangs abandoned their children to find work in the city factories. In an ironic twist, it is this act that steers their eldest daughter to a similar fate.
