Director of the Confucius Institute gives lecture on Peace and Development

On Friday 6 August, Director of the Confucius Institute, Professor Hans Hendrischke, gave a speech at Parliament House, Sydney, on the tenth Anniversary of the Australian Council for the Promotion of the Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC). The speech, entitled: 'What Australia can do to Promote Peace and Development on Both Sides of the Straits', was aimed at giving an Australian perspective on the relationship between the two countries.

During the lecture, Professor Hendrischke spoke of the work of the Confucius Institute in promoting Chinese language and culture to the people of Sydney, and the role of the University of Sydney, currently welcoming five thousand students from China and establishing a new China Studies Centre, that will help Australia contribute greatly to future cultural and academic exchange and therefore, encouraging long-term development between the two nations.
