Chinese Opera Workshops

For opera enthusiasts, the Confucius Institute will present three Chinese opera workshops with Jingkun Theatre on 12 May at the University.
Workshop topics include:
1) Percussion
Percussion is extremely important in Chinese opera performances. A percussion ensemble comprises a drummer (conductor), a big gong player, a cymbal playerand a small gong player. In this workshop, participants will learn how to play these instruments and collectively produce some rhythmic patterns under the drummer's direction through hand signals.
2) Make-up
General knowledge and actual demonstration of make up in Chinese traditional theatre.
3) Stage Movement
In this session, participants will learn movements and techniques such as walking and hand gestures.
