Professor Ali Darendeliler - First Australian honoured at the European Orthodontic Society
2 September 2013
On 27 June 2013, Professor M. Ali Darendeliler, Chair of Orthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney, was the first Australian to be honoured with the "Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecture Award" at the 89th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society in Reykjavik, Iceland. We were extremely proud to learn that this award, in recognition of Professor Darendeliler's significant scientific contribution to the discipline of Orthodontics, is the highest honour accorded by the European Orthodontic Society.
With close to 2,500 people attending, the Congress represented the most attended event in Iceland's history, making it a highly newsworthy event on Icelandic television.
Said Professor Darendeliler proudly, 'our Faculty participated in the Congress with 3 oral presentations and 5 posters, and our joint study with the "19 Mayis University" in Samsun, Turkey was awarded second prize in the Houston Research Awards. With 800 posters presented, we were also overjoyed to be the recipient of 1 of the 5 posters to be awarded the "Best Poster Award" for our poster "Comparison of The Effects of Continuous Versus Intermittent Controlled Orthodontic Forces on Root Resorption".
