Congratulating Dr David Walker on his award of a Brocher Fellowship
2 October 2013
Please join me in congratulating Dr David Walker, National Health and Medical Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow in Indigenous Oral Health, on his award of a two-month Brocher Fellowship in Geneva.
This prestigious Fellowship allowed Dr Walker to collaborate with colleagues in both the World Health Organisation and World Federation of Public Health Associations in the integration of oral health within primary health care and the sustainable development of the oral health role of primary health personnel. While in Geneva Dr Walker also attended the World Health Assembly and was appointed to the executive of the Oral Health Working Group of the World Federation of Public Health Associations.
Dr Walker's research, funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, focused on exploration of the factors influencing the sustainability of the development of the oral health role of Aboriginal Health Workers. In recognition of the importance of this unique contribution he received the Public Health Association of Australia's award 'for outstanding contribution to public health research in Aboriginal populations'.
Dr Walker has expressed his thanks to the Brocher Foundation for the international research collaboration opportunities the Fellowship has provided.
Professor Chris Peck.
The Dean, Faculty of Dentistry.
