4 July 2011

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD)/NuSmile Graduate Student Research Award

We are very proud to announce that Faculty of Dentistry DClinDent (Paediatric Dentistry) graduate and alumna, Dr. Susan Hsieh, has been honoured with the prestigious international award - the AAPD/NuSmile Graduate Student Research Award.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry undertakes a global search to select eight important works of research and the finalists are invited to present their results in New York.

This is Dr. Hseih's third international award for her groundbreaking research into the oral health effects of childhood anti-neoplastic therapy. Her work on survivors of childhood cancers has shown that many of the therapies have adverse effects that persist for years and she has also identified windows of heightened susceptibility when exposure to radio- and/or chemotherapy can severely disrupt oral health.

Please join the Faculty and University of Sydney in offering hearty congratulations to Dr. Sheih and her supervisors Dr. Sally Hibbert (WCOH), Dr. Manish Arora (University of Sydney), Dr. Peter Shaw (Children's Hospital at Westmead), and Dr. Verity Ahern (Radiation Oncology, Westmead Hospital).
