17 November 2011

On the 26th November Marianna Doumanis 1st Year BOH will receive a Sydney University Blue.

Blue is an award given to an individual by the Sports Union for outstanding achievement at a National or International level. Typically the recipient must have achieved a medal winning performance at National or International University competition level or must have won a Gold medal at a regional level. Blues earn the right to wear the Blues jacket in the traditional stripes of Blue and Gold with the Sydney University Shield.

Marianna had a successful year in her sport of Rowing by winning Gold at the 2011 National Rowing Championship U23 Lightweight Women's Quad Scull; Gold 2011 Australian University Games Lightweight Women's Quad Scull; Silver 2011 NSW Open Women's Lightweight Quad Scull and Bronze 2011 NSW Open Women's Lightweight Double Scull. She also Represented NSW at the 2011 Australian Rowing Championships and represented NSW in the Youth Cup Championships placing a very close 2nd to New Zealand in the Lightweight Women's Single Scull.

Along with her desire to succeed in her studies at the University of Sydney to graduate as a Oral Health Therapist, Marianna, who started Rowing in year 8 at Tara, said that she would one day like to represent Australia and win a World Championship.

Please join A/Professor Peter Dennison and the Dean in congratulating her on this great achievement.
