Dentistry started their rugby campaign in earnest against Vet Science on 14 September 2012. However, their preparation started long before - in early 2011, when a group of students, many of who had never played Rugby before, came together and trained the house down under the guidance of BDent3 student, Tom Shumack, and Dr Neil Peppitt.
Final year Bachelor of Dentistry students, Ramesh Harichandran, Amelia Fernandes, Lora Banicevic and Jasmine Aurora competed against winners from all States in Australia, NZ and Oceania, to win the Colgate Travel Grant to present their collaborative research (with A/Professor Wendell Evans, A/Professor Peter Duckmanton and Dr Michelle Heffernan), at the International Association for Dental Research meeting in Seattle Washington, in March 2013.

October 2011 saw Dr Eszter Kalotay combine her fourth annual visit for voluntary work at the Saint Francis Foundation with an invitation to three BDent 3 students, Andy Lam, Chris Xu and Shannon He, and one BDent4 student, Judy Liu, to join her in the Transylvanian orphanage for their elective placement program.
Thirty years of intensive research and close association with peers saw the emergence of Professor Iven Klineberg and Diane Kingston's collaborative work on Oral Rehabilitation.
We were proud to learn that Professor Anthony Blinkhorn and his co-authors, KM Milsom, T Walsh, HV Worthington, P Kearney-Mitchell, H Whitehead and M Tickle, were recently awarded the 2012 IADR Aubrey Sheiham Award.
As a mature-age student with no Higher School Certificate (HSC), Jacinda Matthews had been concerned before starting her university studies in oral health about whether she would be able to keep up with other students who had come straight from high school. Last month she celebrated her graduation.
BDent Graduand, Dina Bedros, has recently had her student research, "Child and family health nurses' experiences of oral health of preschool children: a qualitative approach" published in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry.
