The Faculty of Education and Social Work in conjunction with the Modern Language Teachers Association of New South Wales celebrated this 100 - year milestone event at a cocktail reception to coincide with the Modern Language Teachers' Association's Annual Conference on Friday 18th March 2016.

The 100-plus language teachers in attendance not only witnessed the launch of a commemorative booklet produced to celebrate accomplished alumni language teachers in our schools and universities, but also heard more about the history of language teacher education from Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Sherington.

Among the attendees were representatives from the Consulates of Greece, Turkey and Japan.

Attending also were representatives from the Executive of the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers' Associations, the Modern Language Teachers' Association of New South Wales, curriculum officers from the Department of Education, as well as the Dean, Professor Diane Mayer, Associate Dean International and Alumni, Professor Fran Waugh, and coordinator of the event, alumna Professor Lesley Harbon (BA 1981) from the School of International Studies at University of Technology Sydney, and formerly in charge of language teacher education in the Faculty of Education and Social Work between 2002-2015.
