As a first-year student, you are able to take electives within the Faculty of Education and Social Work, which include topics focused on nutrition, sport, digital culture, and academic literacy.

If you are interested, make sure to check census deadlines and register as soon as possible.

To change your enrolment, log into Sydney Student.

Once you are in, click on 'My Studies' and choose 'Units of Study'. Click on 'Change Units of Study'. You can then modify your units accordingly. Note that, until you click on the EXIT button, you are not done with this process. 

EDGU1006: Texts and Expectations
When students start tertiary studies they are often confronted with reading requirements and written-assessment tasks that are quite different from the ones they encountered in high school. This unit is specifically designed to support students new to the University in developing literacy practices that are expected in the higher education context. Lecture is Tuesday 12-1 pm; tutorials are Tuesdays at various times (weeks 1-12).

EDGU1002: Youth and Digital Culture
This Unit offers you the chance to explore your digital culture using innovative and exciting ways. The unit involves attending live participatory events, producing digital movies and using handheld devices to interact in tutorials. It explores what it means to understand culture as a learner and as a participant, from fanzines to viral videos, twitter to social action causes and the history of music and remix. Lectures are Thursdays 11 am-12 pm (weeks 1-10); tutorials are various times on Thursdays and Fridays (weeks 2-11).

EDGU1003: Diet and Nutrition for Health and Sport
This elective provides participants with the most up to date advice, research and news from the world of food and nutrition. The course covers nutrition topics relevant to students, including the latest diets, matching nutrition to sports goals and busting nutrition myths. Lectures are either Tuesdays 3-5 pm or Wednesdays 9-11 am; hour-long tutorials are various times on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from weeks 1-12.

EDGU1005: Sports Coaching: Theory and Practice
Whether you are an active participant, coach or avid enthusiast, this course is designed for you. You will learn how to create a positive sporting environment for coaching at all levels. The course covers video technology to enhance your coaching skills and how to develop athlete-centred coaching practices. The course involves hands on, practical workshops. Lectures are Tuesdays 10-11 am (weeks 1-12) and Thursdays 9-10 am (weeks 1-6); tutorials are various times on Tuesdays and Thursdays (weeks 1-6).
