On August 2 2016, the Faculty of Education and Social Work launched the Centre for Research on Learning and Innovation with a lively session of guest speakers, quickfire research presentations, paper plane throwing and plenty of concrete information on how people could engage, followed by some welcome refreshments and chat.

The Centre's objectives are to raise awareness of its aims and capabilities and giving its local members/potential members more of a sense of belonging to something big and exciting and well-connected.

The Dean, Professor Diane Mayer provided the welcome and acknowledgement before Centre Director, Professor Peter Goodyear kicked off proceedings, which included a ten minute interactive slot with a focus on Twitter where attendees:

  • discuss what they think the key question/s the Centre should address before writing that information on a sheet of paper
  • photograph and Tweet with hashtag #CRLI if they want to - people can share via both digital and material means
  • then folding it into a paper plane & throwing it to the team of presenters at the front to give feedback and answer questions
