Faculty scholarships program continues to expand
27 June 2011
Independent girls school Ascham has signed an agreement with the Faculty of Education and Social Work to sponsor scholarships in from 2012.
The school will provide two scholarships annually valued at about $11,500 each. The scholarships will be awarded to final-year students in the Master of Teaching or Bachelor of Education programs whose graduates are training to become secondary-school teachers of commerce/economics, history, mathematics or science.
To commemorate its new relationship with the faculty, Ascham has offered to become a foundation donor to the Dean's Special Scholarship for Students in Need: a new scholarship that will assist students who are in need of financial assistance or have experienced some other form of hardship, such as a medical condition, which has affected their university experience.
Other schools and organisations with philanthropic traditions similar to Ascham's will be invited to join the scholarship's honour roll or founding donors.
The launch of the new scholarships brings to four the number of new scholarship programs funded in the past two years, the most recent being the new scholarship recipients undertaking professional experience last year at both Newington College and Kinross-Wolaroi School.
