Policy research in NGOs in the human-services sector

9 June 2011

This seminar launches the report "Researching the researchers", which lists the findings of an 2010 analysis of the the growing trend among Australian human-services-sector NGOs to invest in research units and policy research positions. The report sheds light on the nature and scope of the policy research being undertaken by NGOs:

  • the types of organisations that undertake policy research; the key areas of research
  • the support and resources provided for this kind of research
  • the internal and external drivers for policy research.
  • the sector's research dissemination methods and processes.

"Researching the researchers" will be of special interest to those concerned with the relationship between research and policy, as policy researchers reflect on the factors that enable and constrain the impact that their research has on policy.

Sally Cowling, who will launch the report, is the manager of research and program development for Uniting Care Young People and Families.
