Child Health experts to develop new Healthy Kids Check

The Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Mark Butler, has announced a national group of child health experts who will develop a new Healthy Kids Check for three-year-olds.

The Government is bringing forward the Healthy Kids Check from four year olds to three year olds and for the first time, the check will cover a child's social and emotional wellbeing.
The group, chaired by leading child health expert Professor Frank Oberklaid, will advise the Government on the content of the check, how it should be carried out, and importantly what services are available.

Professor Stewart Einfeld, Chair of Mental Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences has been appointed a member of the group which includes Dr Elisabeth Murphy (deputy chair), Ms Pam Cahir; Dr Michael Fasher; Associate Professor Sue Kruske; Professor Lyn Littlefield; Dr Elspeth McInnes; Professor Helen Milroy; Dr Cathrine Neilsen-Hewett; Dr Jan Pratt; and a representative from state and territory governments.

Together, the group will also map the nation's child mental health services ensuring that health professionals and families have a better understanding of what services are available.
