Annual UniKey password resets to be implemented at the University

9 September 2013

As a security response to increasingly sophisticated compromises of UniKey accounts, the University is preparing to implement annual password resets for all staff and students.

While the password security system is currently strong, unreported and undetected misuse of UniKey accounts has been recognised as an ongoing risk by the Audit and Risk Management team at the University. As the custodian of valuable information, it is the University's responsibility to implement measures that will protect both you and the variety of systems that you use when logging in with your UniKey account.

To ensure greater password security, new UniKey password creation rules will be in place. While some rules may be seen as complex, please keep in mind that unlike other organisations, the University protects a wide variety of systems though the UniKey log-in. We can assure you that we are doing everything we can to minimise any inconvenience by making the password change process as simple as possible.

Please make sure you keep an eye out for more information in the coming month as we provide some useful tips on coming up with a strong password, and notify you of the official start date for the new UniKey password change policy.
