IT systems including email and file shares will be unavailable 14 September

10 September 2013

This Saturday 14 September ICT will be conducting repairs in our data centre. Between 9am and 5pm, the following services will be unavailable:

  • Staff email (Exchange 2010), including Outlook Web Access
  • Individual and group file shares
  • Research Data Store (RDS)
  • Test/development environments for Virtual Desktop, Exchange 2010, SIBI, TRIM and Private Cloud
  • A number of faculty-specific applications (a list of impacted servers is available on the Service updates section of the Staff Intranet)

Exchange 2010 will be unavailable while the repairs are being conducted. Outgoing messages will be queued in a user's local outbox and will be sent once the service is switched back on. Incoming emails will be queued and will be sent to a user's inbox after the change. If you need to send important emails please do so outside the hours of the service interruption.

Staff who need to work on documents this weekend should save a copy (either on your machine or on an external drive) before 8am Saturday 14 September. You will be able to access your individual and group drives after 5pm.

We understand that this fix causes an interruption to a number of services; however, postponing the repairs will lead to an increased risk of disc failure and data loss. ICT has scheduled this repair at a time which aims to cause minimal disruption to both staff and students. If you need any clarification about services impacted this weekend please contact the ICT Helpdesk on 9351 6000 between 8am and 9am Mon-Fri. Any changes to the service interruption will be published on the Service updates section of the Staff Intranet)

Note: If you believe one of the servers you manage has been adversely affected after the change is complete on 5pm Saturday 14 September, and you need urgent assistance please contact Didier Debuf on 0425 216 152.
