Multiple restarts on staff computers caused by Microsoft update

4 December 2013

We are in the process of deploying an update to all staff Windows machines which was released by Microsoft and designed to increase the functionality and performance of Microsoft Office programs. The patch was distributed last week in the form of a regular Windows Update through ICT's System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) desktop management technology. After the update was sent, each machine was given a fixed period of time to run the update before it would begin applying automatically. We understand that this update has caused an automatic restart at short notice and that on some machines, particularly those that are not up to date, this change is causing numerous restarts and lengthy disruptions while multiple updates are applied to your operating system. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. We recommend you continue to regularly save any work in progress until your computer is up-to-date. We expect all updates to be applied by no later than 5pm on Thursday 5 December 2013. If the updates have resulted in any loss of functionality, please contact the ICT Helpdesk on 9351 6000.
