Professor Rosemary Lyster was part of a four personal panel discussing the question "Is science just another voice in the policy debate?" as part of the 4th Sydney-Tilburg conference on the philosophy of science.

The free public event took place on Friday 8 April 2001.

Professor Trevor Hambley, Dean of the Faculty of Science,introduced the evening and Paul Willis, from ABC TV's Catalyst, chaired the discussion with panel members:

• Professor David Castle, Chair of Innovation in the Life Sciences, University of Edinburgh
• Professor Rosemary Lyster, University of Sydney, inaugural Professor of Climate and Environmental LawProfessor Christian List, London School of Economics, Professor of Political Science and Philosophy

The conference, whichran from 8 to 10 April, also included eminent speakers such as Professor Sir Peter Gluckman, Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
