The Sydney Law School's research performance has received the highest possible rating of 5 in the 2012 Excellence in Research for Australia.

The rating indicates a performance well above world standard, for Law and Legal Services in the 2012 ERA results.

Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assesses research quality within Australia's higher education institutions using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts.

In addition, Sydney Law School received a world-leading ranking in the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) reflected in the following rankings:

• 3^rd in the world on SSRN's Top 500 International Law Schools list (non-US law schools), after Tilburg Law School, Netherlands (1) and Oxford University Faculty of Law (2)
• 20^th in the world on SSRN's Top 750 Law Schools list, which includes both US and non-US law schools, making it Australia's top Law School on the SSRN
