5 December 2012
Congratulations to our 24th Rhodes Scholar, Patrick Bateman (BEcSocSci '10 LLB '12) on winning the 2013 Australia-At-Large Rhodes Scholarship, one of only two awarded each year.
Patrick intends to study the Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) and the Masters of Science in Global Governance and Diplomacy (MSc. GGD) at the University of Oxford.
"It is my privilege to teach many of the very best and brightest students at the University and I can say that I have never encountered a student who has performed at such an exceptional academic level while occupying major leadership roles in student organisations, in his work for community groups, while also maintaining major sporting pursuits," said Associate Professor Tim Stephens, who was faculty advisor to the Sydney Law School Jessup Team that defeated the Columbia Law School Team in the final at the 2011 international rounds of the competition in Washington D.C.
"He has made a truly unique contribution to the diverse life of the University of Sydney and I am sure he is destined to achieve remarkable things in his career, wherever it should take him."
Patrick is Sydney Law School's 24th Rhodes Scholar, a list that includes Geoffrey Robertson and Malcolm Turnbull.
Further, Patrick is the 13th Sydney Law School Rhodes Scholar since 2000 and the seventh from St Paul's College.
Patrick was also the recent joint winner of the University of Sydney Convocation Medal.
