Professor Ron McCallum AO appointed inaugural rapporteur to UN Disabilities Convention

Sydney Law School would like to congratulate Professor Ron McCallum AO on his appointment as the inaugural rapporteur to the United Nations Disabilities Convention.

As Rapporteur, Professor McCallum will be responsible for reporting to the UN General Assembly on the recommendations and activities of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

In a joint media release issued by the Attorney-General, The Hon. Robert McClelland MP and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, The Hon. Stephen Smith MP, the Government welcomed the appointment.

"I congratulate Professor McCallum on being elected by his fellow committee members to this significant position to which I am sure he will make an important and effective contribution," Mr McClelland said.

Professor McCallum's appointment follows his nomination by the Government in September 2008 and his election to the United Nations in November 2008.
