Legal interpretation: the bounds of legitimacy

Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, The Hon. Murray Gleeson, AC (BA 1959, LLB 1962, LLD 1999) will deliver a lecture on the contemporary importance of statutory interpretation, as part of the Sydney Law School's Distinguished Speakers Program for 2009.

Entitled,"Legal interpretation: the bounds of legitimacy," it will take place on Wednesday, 16th September 2009.

Interviewed for the Legal Affairs section in today's edition of The Australian, the Dean, Professor Gillian Triggs, said the former chief justice would be an adjunct professor.

"He will assist us with development of the curriculum of a course on statutory interpretation and has agreed to give a public distinguished speakers series lecture on the contemporary importance of the subject," Professor Triggs said.
