Professor Belinda Bennett appointed to Medical Board of Australia
3 September 2009
Sydney Law School extends its congratulations to Professor Belinda Bennett on her appointment to the new national Medical Board of Australia.
These presigious appointments are made by the Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council, a joint federal/state collaborative body established following the March 2008 decision of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to create a nationally consistent set of registration and accreditation arrangements for health professionals, in place of the previous system of state and territory governance.
The Medical Board of Australia is one of the ten national boards established to create the national system, joining boards covering chiropractors, dentists, nurses & midwives, optometrists, osteopaths, pharmacists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and psychologists.
The new national registration and accreditation scheme will commence on 1 July 2010.
"This is a major achievement; one which reflects extremely well on the Law School, the Centre for Health Governance Law and Ethics, and - most especially - Belinda herself," said Professor Terry Carney, himself Past President of the International Academy of Law and Mental Health.
Professor Belinda Bennett is also a Fellow of the University of Sydney Senate.
