Associate Professor Gail Mason delivered this year's John Barry Memorial Lecture, presented since 1972 by the Barry Family and the Criminology discipline at the School of Social and Political Sciences in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

Entitled The Penal Politics of Hate, previous speakers included Michael Kirby, Gareth Evans, Christine Nixon, Frank Costigan, Mick Keelty and Alistair Nicholson.
