Points to consider when applying for an LLM

24 November 2009

Professor Gillian Triggs outlines the important points to consider when choosing a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in the Financial Times LLM 2009 special report.

"Students should be especially careful to choose a well regarded LLM course from an institution that has a high reputation in the national, regional and international context.

"The location of the programme or university is not as significant as the recognition of the calibre of the degree, though there is a significant advantage in being in major cities such as London, New York, Paris, Sydney as that is where the job opportunities are most likely to be available."

Professor Triggs also advises that prospective students "should focus on excellence in scholarship and reputation [of the school]" and attending open days will give "a sense of the place and commitment of staff."
