Sydney Law School victorious at the 2010 World Universities Debating Championships

A team consisting of fourth year Economics/Law student, Steven Hind and final year Arts/Law student, Christopher Croke (BA 2009) has won the 2010 World Universities Debating Championships, held in Antalya, Turkey.

In a 7-2 decision, Sydney defeated teams from Oxford University, the London School of Economics (LSE) and Harvard University in the final.

Steven Hind was named 2nd Best Speaker in the World.

It is the fifth time a team from the University of Sydney has won the World Universities Debating Championships.

"Congratulations to our law students, Steve Hind and Christopher Croke, for this outstanding achievement," said the Dean of Sydney Law School, Professor Gillian Triggs.

"My colleagues and I at the Law School are delighted by the continued success of the University of Sydney in the WUDC against strong international competition.

"Steve and Christopher have shown yet again how talented Australian law students are on the world stage.

"We wish them well in their future careers."
