2010 Australian Rounds of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

9 February 2010

The 2010 Jessup Team: David Robertson, Naomi Hart, Matthew Kalyk, Houda Younan (coach), Callista Harris and Christine Ernst.

Sydney Law School would like to congratulate its Jessup Team on its recent achievements at the 2010 Australian Rounds of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which took place in Canberra last week.

Teams from 16 Australian Universities competed for a place in the final, with both the winner and runner-up proceeding to the International Round in Washington D.C.

Coordinator, Dr Jacqueline Mowbray provided this report:

"Unfortunately, they were narrowly defeated by ANU in an extremely close semi-final on Saturday.

"However, the exceptional abilities of the team were recognised by the fact that it received two best oralist awards (Matthew Kalyk and Christine Ernst) and the award for Best Respondent Memorial.

'I personally cannot overstate how impressed I was with the team's performance in Canberra - they are five extremely talented individuals, who performed at the very highest level throughout the competition.

"While it is disappointing that they will not be going on to represent Australia in the international rounds in Washington, they should be enormously proud of the way in which they represented the University, and our congratulations to them all."
