In June, Nicola Franklin and Emeritus Professor Ben Boer conducted the unit of study Sustainable Development Law in China.

This unit has been run every couple of years since 1995.

This year marked the return of the unit to Wuhan University.

It involved 10 days of intensive lectures and field trips, including a two- day cruise on the Yangtze River to view the effects of the Three Gorges Dam on the upstream valleys, the local communities and their natural and cultural heritage.

The unit was run in close collaboration with the staff of the Research Institute of Environmental Law at Wuhan University, a number of whom have visited the University of Sydney in the past.

"The unit was a very rewarding experience for all involved," said Emeritus Professor Ben Boer.
