Campaign reform

2 November 2010

Associate Professor Anne Twomey says businesses, unions and lobby groups have a legitimate role to play in the political debate process.

Commenting on proposed campaign finance reforms which would place strict caps on party and candidate campaign expenditure in an interview for Australian Associated Press (AAP), Associate Professor Twomey asserts that, "...while limits could be placed on associated entities, which are really just fronts for parties, it would be difficult to constrain the political activities of genuine bodies such as businesses, unions and lobby groups."
