Professor Michael Dirkis comments on the issue of phoenix companies in a special report published in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Professor Dirkis argues that phoenix activity is hard to prove and it most occurs in the small-to medium sized sector.

He question whether such activity involves "...incompetent people who can't run a business or deliberate fraud?

"By the time the authorities realise there is a problem, the principals of the entity have disappeared."
