The International Development Law Organisation (IDLO), an inter-governmental organisation based in Rome, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sydney Law School for joint collaboration in a range of fields including environmental and climate law, international trade law, and health law.

The joint activities envisaged by the agreement range from training and capacity building, to technical assistance, research and publication, and the hosting of conferences and seminars.

The Faculty's Centre for Health Governance, Law & Ethics is already involved in the preparation of a manual to assist countries that are updating their public health laws, in collaboration with IDLO and the World Health Organisation, and other projects are being discussed.
On a recent visit to Rome, Mr Daniel Rowland, the Faculty's Law and Development Adviser, met with Mr David Patterson, IDLO's Senior Legal Officer and Manager of the Health Law Program, and with other IDLO colleagues to discuss options for future collaboration.

David Patterson is a previous visitor to the Faculty, having given an oration in October 2010 on the role of law in the global response to HIV/AIDS, co-hosted by the Centre for Health Governance and the Sydney Centre for International Law.
