Queen's Birthday Honours

The Hon. Justice Peter McClellan, QC (BA 1971, LLB 1974) received the award of Member, general division (AM) in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.
Justice McClellan, who is the Chief Judge at Common Law in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, received recognition for this service to the judiciary, environmental law and legal education.

Justice McClellan, a University of Sydney arts-law graduate, began his career in 1975 and within a decade was appointed QC.
He was involved in the royal commission into British nuclear tests, the review of the Sydney casino licence and the inquiry into Sydney's water supply.
He was assistant ICAC commissioner and acting judge of the District Court before being appointed chief justice of the Land and Environment Court in 2003.
In this role, he made substantial changes to the way environmental disputes are heard and determined, particularly regarding expert evidence.
''It made the process significantly more efficient and improved the quality of the evidence given in the court and the capacity of judges to make decisions,'' he said.
His reforms in the Land and Environment Court have been carried over to the common law division of the Supreme Court, where he was appointed chief judge in 2005.
Alan Cameron has been appointed an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to business and commerce, particularly through the promotion of regulatory standards, corporate governance and professional ethics, to tertiary education and to the community.
It is Alan's second award after he was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List in 1997 for his service to the law, commerce and public administration.
Alan Cameron has been theDeputy Chancellor of the University of Sydney since 2008.
In addition to advising on corporate governance and regulatory issues for law firm, Blake Dawson, he is also the current Chairman of ASX Compliance, Hastings Funds Management Ltd, Westpac Life and General Insurance Ltd and National E-Conveyancing Development Ltd.
He is a former Chairman of ASIC and its predecessor, the ASC, as well as of the Joint Forum of international regulators of securities, banking and insurance and the NSW Growth Centres Commission.
