Sydney Law School congratulates alumna Naomi Hart, who has been awarded the Convocation Medal for Undergraduate Achievement.
The award was presented by Mr Alan Cameron AO (BA 1968, LLB 1971, LLM 1977), Deputy Chancellor of the University, at this year's Alumni Awards Ceremony held on Friday 28 October in the Great Hall.
Naomi has excelled academically, collecting numerous accolades, including the University Medal in history.
She is also a talented debater who has been ranked as a top 10 speaker in Australasia. She co-founded the Sydney University Public Speaking Society, convened the Justice Michael Kirby Plain Speaking Competition and, in 2007, served as Director of Debates, a time-consuming role.
Naomi also edited Honi Soit, served as President of the Sydney Uni Red Cross Society, and established a scholarship to encourage women from developing countries to participate in debating.
In the sporting arena she has been an enthusiastic member of the University's Australian Rules Football women's team, and took many leadership roles in the Sydney University Law Society Soccer Team.
In the wider community she has done volunteer work at Redfern Legal Centre and for a local women's domestic violence court assistance scheme.
Naomi has recently completed a capital defence internship in New Orleans, where she was assigned to appeals cases dealing with prosecution malpractice and deficiencies in due process during trials.
Alumnus Dhruv Nagrath (BCom 2009, LLB 2011) was also amongst the 9 nominees for the Convocation Medal this year.
The Convocation Medal honours bachelor's degree graduates who have shown strong leadership and enriched the diverse life of the University. Naomi shares the 2011 Convocation Medal for Undergraduate Achievement with Nathaniel Ware (BEc 2011).
