The World Heritage Committee and Gladstone

9 November 2011

Dr Tim Stephens comments on the World Heritage Committee's monitoring of developments in and around Queensland's Gladstone Harbour.

In an interview with ABC Rural, Dr Stephens says the World Heritage Committee's involvement may mean the government will change some of the current approval processes.

"I think when the International Union for the Conservation of Nature team comes to Queensland and looks at the development that's going on in Gladstone and elsewhere, discusses with the Federal and State Government their concerns, my feeling is that both governments will change some of the discussions they have made certainly with the speed and the extent of the development that has been permitted," he says.
