The Review of Trust Taxation
22 November 2011
Professor Michael Dirkis says changing the rules associated with trusts raises political issues, owing to the sheer number of them.
According to a report in today's The Australian, the government is pressing ahead with a high-risk review of trust taxation, with new rules governing 660,000 trusts expected to take effect on July 1, 2013, ahead of the next federal election.
Professor Dirkis says there are already a lot of anti-avoidance and integrity rules attached to trusts, which adds complexity.
